RTX welcomes you to this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo – the world’s largest military air show.
This year’s RIAT theme, Eyes in the Skies, shines a light on aviation’s vital role in areas such as maritime patrol, intelligence gathering, aerial surveying, and search and rescue. Many of the aircraft featured in this year’s displays have been designed, engineered or supported by an RTX business — a testament to the global impact of our technologies.
This year marks 80 years since the end of WWII, 100 years since Pratt & Whitney’s founding, and 85 years since the Battle of Britain. These milestones remind us of aviation’s pivotal role: Pratt & Whitney’s Wasp engines were key in the Allies’ victory, powering WWII aircraft like the Lockheed L-12 Electra and Douglas R4D Skytrain. The Chain Home Radar — pioneered by A.C. Cossor Company, the predecessor to Raytheon — was crucial in the Battle of Britain, offering vital early warnings. Today, RTX continues to innovate with technologies and key platforms all of which will be on display or flying at RIAT.
With a history of investing in the UK for over a century, RTX’s UK operations, including Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon UK, span more than 30 sites across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. From powering flight to enhancing mission readiness, RTX supports hundreds of high-skilled jobs across the country, contributing to innovation, national security and economic growth.
July also marks the centenary of Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in aircraft propulsion. Since the debut of the R-1340 Wasp radial engine in 1925, Pratt & Whitney has continually redefined what’s possible in aviation, from powering Allied forces in World War II to the advanced GTF and F135 engines of today. Currently, more than 90,000 Pratt & Whitney engines are in service globally, including over 7,000 military engines powering 34 armed forces worldwide.
At RIAT, RTX will also celebrate a decade of the Quadcopter Challenge, our flagship STEM initiative that brings engineering to life for students across the UK. The Challenge has reached over 130 schools and 1,300 students nationwide. Our STEM Ambassadors will be in the TechnoZone running the Challenge and engaging thousands of young visitors, helping to spark curiosity and inspire the engineers of tomorrow.
