Raytheon UK Receives Fife Civic Recognition Award

Glenrothes, Scotland (23 March, 2022) – Raytheon UK staff in Fife, Scotland, have been recognised for their “exceptional” support during the COVID pandemic in the first Fife Civic Recognition Awards.

The awards were presented to people and organisations in Fife to recognise their collective efforts over the last two years in helping the community deal with COVID-19. They are co-ordinated by Fife Voluntary Action, on behalf of the wider Fife Partnership, and supported by the Lord Lieutenant of Fife and the Provost of Fife.

Raytheon UK’s staff in Fife have been undertaking a range of activities under the “Forward Steps” programme; the umbrella for Raytheon UK’s charitable and volunteering activities. It is committed to supporting Raytheon Technologies’ “Connect Up” global initiative that encourages volunteering champions to connect with and give back to their local communities.

As part of this initiative, Raytheon UK employees in Glenrothes shifted production to ventilators at the start of the pandemic to help support the NHS and their lifesaving work.

The companies’ technological foundations allowed it to mobilise resources quickly to try and help the community.

“I want to personally extend my thanks to our employees in Fife for quickly setting up a ventilator production line that could help save lives” said John Gallagher, managing director, Scotland, at Raytheon UK. “Being able to assist our NHS in such testing times was an important civic duty, and I’m extremely proud the team met that challenge head on.”

The company also donated 114 Raspberry Pi micro-computer starter kits to secondary schools and air cadets across Fife during the pandemic. To help train the students, Raytheon UK and Fife College partnered up to deliver a virtual coding club. The club’s programme has been specifically designed to build local students’ technical skills and boost their potential for roles in the advanced manufacturing sector.

In addition to the Raspberry Pi micro-computer kits, Raytheon UK has also provided funding to both the Cottage Family Centre in Kirkcaldy and the Glenrothes Foodbank. The Cottage Family Centre provide a range of support and a safe place for families and individuals within family units who are vulnerable to social exclusion as a result of factors such as poverty, unemployment, relationship breakdown and health-related issues.

Raytheon UK is part of Raytheon Technologies, which supports 1,900 jobs across Scotland and provides a £187 million contribution to the Scottish economy.
