The Gold Standard

The Ministry of Defence has recognised Raytheon UK for outstanding support of the armed forces community, awarding the company Gold status as part of its Employer Recognition Scheme.

Raytheon UK CEO Richard Daniel accepted the award on the company's behalf at a ceremony on 12 November. Accompanying him was Kevin Howard, chair of Raytheon Reservists and Veterans, which represents Raytheon employees who serve or have served in the armed forces.

"As we take part in Remembrance, it is important to me that we also focus on the tangible action we can take to support those who serve and have served," Daniel said. "We do this not only through the technology and training we provide in partnership with the armed forces, but also as an employer. I am very proud to see Raytheon officially receive Gold status in the MOD’s Employer Recognition Scheme. This is an important milestone in our work to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant and support veterans and reservists at Raytheon."

Raytheon supports its armed forces community through an active events programme that includes "lunch and learn" sessions, leadership and management training events and flexible working options.

Speaking at the event, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson praised Britain’s forces-friendly businesses for their commitment to the military, including employing former service personnel, their families, and reservists.

"Those who have served our country so courageously deserve the full support of organisations across the public and private sector," the defence secretary said. "The breadth and diversity of this year’s Gold Award winners shows how business support for the armed forces continues to flourish. I offer my gratitude and congratulations to all the winners.”

Minister for Defence People and Veterans Tobias Ellwood MP noted that those who serve in the armed forces develop unique skills that translate well to businesses and organisations across the country.

"These awards show just how valued and in demand these skills are," Ellwood said. "I encourage more businesses to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant and show their support for our brave service leavers.”

Raytheon's new accolade allows the company to work closely with the MOD, which created the Armed Forces Covenant, on initiatives to maintain its Gold rating. Only 50 other companies within the UK received the distinction this year.
