Raytheon System Limited’s Semiconductor Business Area has long standing experience in the design and manufacture of CMOS based signal conditioning solutions for numerous sensor applications including
- MEMS Accelerometers
- MEMS Pressure sensors
- Fire detectors
- Gas sensors
- Position sensors
- Light curtains
Utilising a flexible fab approach, the business also has significant development experience in its own semiconductor processes and in the transfer of customer owned processes into the company’s Glenrothes wafer fabrication facility.
Recent development work has focussed on wide bandgap semiconductors and the integration of CMOS with III-V semiconductors
Products and Services
The semiconductor business area provides
- Full custom mixed-signal Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), with non-volatile memory, to a range of industrial and automotive customers.
- Obsolescence re-manufacture with full military screening to a number of major defence programmes in
- Airborne radars
- Missiles
- Military radios.
- General wafer foundry services, including specialised processes on silicon and on non -silicon substrates.
- Long term customer support with very long product lifecycles.
- Comprehensive product support from concept to production.
Flexible Fab Approach
The semiconductor business area operates a flexible fab approach with process developments taking place alongside existing production processes. This allows new processes to be developed in-situ with the main production toolset. Other benefits of RSL include
- Start up and business incubation experience, RSL offers
- Design, manufacture, test, assembly and qualification capabilities.
- Support in supply chain/materials procurement activities
- Support in transitioning manufacturing to non RSL locations (if applicable)
- Vertical integration with our co-located RSL Hybrid and CCA (Circuit Card Assembly) facilities.
- Product Analysis Services.
- Six Sigma Engineering Services.
Quality and Environmental Certifications
- ISO/TS16949:2002
- BS EN ISO 9001:2000
- ISO 14001
History
Established in 1960, RSL's facility at Glenrothes was the first semiconductor fabrication plant in Scotland’s ‘Silicon Glen’. It was established to manufacture germanium and silicon diodes and transistors, and progressed to the design and manufacture of Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuits during 1967. Amongst the innovations at Glenrothes was the supply in production quantities of the first Non-Volatile Memory (EEPROM) products.
