Roger Shone, general manager of Raytheon UK’s Broughton site, was invited to attend an exclusive lunch with the Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan on 19 May.
Hosted by Airbus UK, which is also located at the Broughton plant, the event gave leading businesses a platform to discuss enterprise and skills opportunities in North Wales.
The conversation centred on North Wales’ potential as an enterprise zone and future available of grant funding. In March, the Welsh Secretary voiced her desire to work alongside the Welsh Assembly Government to create enterprise zones in Wales. This followed the U.K. Chancellor George Osborne’s announcement in his Budget that the government plans to set up 21 enterprise zones in England. These zones will enjoy special incentives in a bid to boost economic growth in deprived areas.
Mr. Shone said: “The opportunity to exchange thought leadership was beneficial, especially as Raytheon UK continues to develop Broughton’s engineering & manufacturing capability and grows its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance business.”

By increasing the speed that crucial information is delivered around the battlespace, Shadow shortens the decision cycle, enhancing mission effectiveness and success.
“Since the Shadow R Mk1 entered service, it has proven of immense value to U.K. forces,” said Paul Francis, Raytheon UK’s head of Tactical Aircraft. “We are proud that Shadow has joined the solid success of the company’s Airborne Stand-Off Reconnaissance (ASTOR) system within Raytheon’s operationally-proven ISR portfolio.”
