UK MoD Selects Metrix Consortium

The U.K. Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected the Metrix consortium, which includes the integrated efforts of three Raytheon Company subsidiaries including Raytheon Systems Limited, as its preferred bidder for the Defence Training Review programme (DTR). The Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne MP, made the announcement in Parliament on the 17 th January.

Metrix Consortium

The Metrix Consortium consists of the QinetiQ and the Land Securities Trillium joint venture with major subcontractor Raytheon and EDS, Nord Anglia Education, The Open University, City and Guilds, Serco and AgustaWestland.

The Metrix consortium combines the best in technical knowledge, the best in education and training and the best in land property and facilities management.

The consortium can deliver everything that the MoD needs from a Defence Training partner. The consortium brings years of experience as architect and provider of the most innovative in training delivery on a global scale in both the civil market and defence. Metrix will deliver a fresh innovative approach and real value for money.

Raytheon has delivered Innovative training to over 400,000 students annually in NASA, General Motors and the US military.

The UK Defence Training Review

The UK Armed Forces are the best in the world because they are the best trained in the world. Over the next 30 years the UK will deploy new capabilities and must possess the ability to deliver the appropriate effects to defeat rapidly evolving and asymmetrical threats.

These capabilities will depend upon the ability of the UK Armed Forces to anticipate the challenges ahead and deploy increasingly well prepared, qualified and skilled service personnel. The DTR programme is central to achieving this objective. It will ensure that military capability is maintained and will enable the UK Armed Forces to successfully achieve their mission.

The Metrix Solution –Building a World-Class Defence Training Academy

Plans to create a new world-class Defence Training Academy, alongside the Aerospace Centre of Excellence developed by the Welsh Assembly Government have been drawn up by the Metrix consortium. The St Athan Park proposals build on the site's history as a location which has been at the forefront of providing training and a skilled workforce for the RAF.
